Ashley Smith's Christian Witness

By now I'm sure you've heard about Ashley Smith, who was taken hostage by quadruple murder suspect Brian Nichols over the weekend in Atlanta. Not only does she credit God for seeing her through this ordeal, she lived out her faith by witnessing to this cold-blooded killer, showing him what the love of Christ is all about. I think we can all learn from her example.

From CBS News:

"You're here in my apartment for some reason," she told him, saying he might be destined to be caught and to spread the word of God to fellow prisoners. She also read the bible to Nichols. . . .

It's wonderful that this woman is safe, but if God intervened on her behalf where was he when those other folks got shot?

God says in Romans 9:14, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion." When the others were killed, God was in the same place he was when his own son died on the cross. It is difficult for us to always understand the purpose of God, but we are told in the Scriptures that not one sparrow falls without his notice. Instead of questioning God's integrity, we should be celebrating the mercy he has shown to Ashley.
