Terri Schiavo Dies

Fox News is reporting that Terri Schiavo died around 10 this morning, and that her parents and siblings were not permitted to be at her bedside during her final moments.

Please remember to continue to pray for her family and for her husband—especially for his heart. And please pray for our society and culture, that we will begin to place a greater value on God's precious gift to us: life.

Some final thoughts on this whole ordeal....

I believe it is unfortunate that the court system failed us and opened the door to more like decisions in other similar cases. I used to think that if you didn't put something down in writing that it was your problem. Whether Terri's wishes were granted or not, I thought the legal system would err on the side of life.

I also believe that NONE of us know all the facts but most everyone was eager to jump to conclusions that favored their point of view.

I believe that NoNE of us know Michael Schiavo's heart except him and his Creator. I fear that many analytically thinking non-Christians witnessed proclaimed Christian's jumping on the "Michael is evil" bandwagon, i.e. judgment and condemnation. Perhaps he was, perhaps the stories were true. Perhaps, just perhaps, they were not what they seemed.

But more importantly, I believe that it was about Terri and Terri alone. NONE of us know what she was or was not feeling for the past 15 years. No one knows if her husband did her a favor or if he essentially murdered her.

This is not an issue about whether or not someone has "value of life". Though I fear some may make it so. Lying in a hospital bed without any abilities is never an excuse to let a breathing person die. It's about that persons choice and the level of suffering.

Unfortunately, none of us will know the answer to these 2 questions and we should be mindful of these facts in our pursuits. If nothing else, I'm glad that she is at peace tonight and pray that none of us are ever in their shoes.
