Harvard to Determine Origins of Life

Have you been concerned about the intense debate over evolution, creation and Intelligent Design? Well, fear not, Harvard University is set to spend millions of dollars to finally set the record straight. A team of researchers are being formed to head up the "Origins of Life in the Universe Initiative" and will receive $1 million a year from the university, which will include the financing of new facilities and faculty.

In an Associated Press article, David R. Liu, a professor of chemistry and chemical biology at Harvard, says: . . . "My expectation is that we will be able to reduce this to a very simple series of logical events that could have taken place with no divine intervention."

Liu sure is starting this project without any preconceived notions or biases, isn't he?

They can save their money on this one. It is easy to see how this will turn out.

Thank you, Fred. This was my reaction upon hearing the story on the news the other day. I am anticipating the chuckle I will get when they announce their findings and tell us what a balanced and open minded investigation was conducted. Still, it is an interesting commentary that they are not bothering to hide the fact that they have already made up their minds as to the outcome of the study. What may be more telling is the "rest of the story" (as they say). Harvard officials are already preparing for several new faculty positions, museums and courses that will come out of this effort. Are they attempting to expand knowledge, or to expand their revenue?
